All scientific articles submitted to the editorial board of the journal “Bulletin of the Dagestan State Medical Academy” undergo mandatory double-blind peer review (reviewers are unaware of the authors’ names, and authors are unaware of the reviewers’ names).
To ensure the quality of published materials and copyright compliance, articles submitted to the journal are checked for plagiarism using the Antiplagiat system (Антиплагиат) and only then sent for review. Submissions with less than 70% originality will not be accepted for publication.
The editor-in-chief, deputy editor-in-chief, and executive secretary of the journal determine whether the article complies with the journal’s profile and formatting requirements and submit it for review. Members of the journal’s editorial board/editorial council and external reviewers holding a candidate or doctorate in medical sciences and possessing sufficient scientific experience in the research area stated in the article may be involved in the review. The decision to select a reviewer for the peer review of an article is made by the journal’s Editor-in-Chief or Deputy Editor-in-Chief. The review process lasts from 2 to 4 weeks.
Reviewers working in the same department of the research and/or medical institution where the work was completed are not included in the review process.
Each reviewer has the right to decline to review if there is a clear conflict of interest that could affect the perception and interpretation of the manuscript.
The editors reserve the right to refuse publication or submit comments on the article, which must be corrected by the Author before review.
Reviewers are informed that the manuscripts submitted to them are the private property of the authors and contain confidential information. Reviewers are not permitted to make copies of the articles; the review process is confidential.
The review must indicate: a) whether the article’s content corresponds to its title; b) the extent to which the article is consistent with current advances in the field of science under review; c) the format of the submission, and whether it corresponds to the content; d) whether publication of the reviewed work is appropriate; d) what are the main strengths and weaknesses of the article.
The editors will notify the author of the review results by email.
The author of the article will be given the opportunity to review the review, which the editors will send to the author by email.
If the reviewer concludes that the article is suitable for publication and does not make any significant corrections, the article is forwarded to the scientific editors, after whose positive decision it is accepted for further processing.
If the review contains recommendations for correction and revision of the article, the journal’s executive secretary will send the text of the review to the author with a proposal to consider the recommendations when preparing a new version of the article or to provide a reasoned rebuttal. The author’s revised article is resubmitted for review.
If the authors refuse to make corrections to the article in accordance with the recommendations of the reviewers and scientific editors, they must notify the editors in writing or orally of their refusal to publish the article. If the authors fail to return the revised version of the article within two months of submitting the review, even in the absence of any written confirmation from the authors that they have rejected the revision, the editors will withdraw the article from publication. The authors will be notified of the manuscript’s withdrawal due to the expiration of the revision deadline.
The final decision on publication is made by the journal’s editorial board and recorded in the minutes of the editorial board meeting. After the journal’s editorial board has accepted the article for publication, the journal’s responsible secretary will inform the author and indicate the publication deadline. The review text will be sent to the author.
If the reviewer does not recommend the article for publication, the authors will receive the text of the negative review.
The original reviews will kept by the journal’s editorial board for five years from the date of publication.
